London Short Film Festival 2010

A short film about a near death experience directed by Susan Aldworth, editing and sound by Barney Quinton. Aldworth’s recent work focuses on the brain to explore the mystery of human consciousness. Working on location as an artist-in-residence in a hospital has become central to Aldworths’ investigations into human identity. In this film she uses a series of monoprints based on the visual imagery of brain scans to document bursts of activity in the brain. This new video work revolves around the uncanny parallels found in the personal testimonies of those who have experienced ‘near-death’. “Bringing together the subjective with the objective, Aldworth’s work belongs to a distinguished tradition in which art is the partner to science in the advance of insight and understanding of the human condition.” Gill Saunders, Senior Curator, Prints and drawings, Victoria & Albert Museum, November 2007
